Philip Gray is an artist I particularly love. I first saw his work in a gallery in Derby, I've been in love with his work since...
He is an extreme artist, meaning that he really gets in touch with his surroundings. He explores new terrains and environments, sits himself down and produces magnificent pieces. In doing this he challenges himself physically as well as creatively. The first pieces of work I saw by him were of a collection named 'Altitudes', a series that I really think shows how extreme of an artist he is, afterall not many artists would travel to nepal and mount everest, paint at over 6,000 metres and temperatures reaching below -30Âșc.
His landscapes to me are unmistakably beautiful. I particularly love his use of colour within his paintings. I believe he really manages to capture the atmosphere of his surroundings.
One of the things I love most about Gray is his evident passion for creating such beautiful pieces. I think that some artists these days produce art just to produce it, or because they want to be successful and known in the art world, which is fair enough as artists don't we all? However I personally feel that Gray has pursued this life of art and been so successful at it because he clearly loves what he does, and that reflects in his work. I find this passion he has for his work especially admirable.
If this is the first time you've come across his work i highly recommend you take a longer look at his website : http://philipgray.com
